There are quite a few routes to drive from Bangalore to Wayanad. Three major routes explained here.
Road through Nagarhole National Park
Wayand towns are about 300km from Bangalore. It's typically a 7-8 hours road trip, considering reasonable road conditions and a couple of short halts.
Bangalore to Wayanad via Mysore, Hunsur, Nagarhole NP, Kutta and Mananthavadi
Bangalore to Wayanad via Mysore, HD Kote, Kabini, Nagarhole and Mananthavadi.
Bangalore to Wayanad via Mysore, Gundlupet, Sulthan Bathery and Kalpetta.
Note all the routes passes through the national parks saddling the Kerala-Karnataka border. Night traffic is restricted (between 6 pm to 6 am). So if you are setting out from Bangalore towards wayanad, see to that you'll cross the border before 6pm.
In about 6 hours you'll reach the Forest checkpost (any of the 3 routes) from Bangalore, assuming you'll take about 4 hours to reach Mysore City, and another 2 hours to cover the Mysore to forest entry point (any of the 3 routes). What it means is you'll find it difficult to reach the forest entry point before the night curfew starts, if you do not start before noon from Bangalore. If so, stay back at Mysore and set out early next day morning!
On the return journey, depending on the routes , there are one of the three forest entry check posts where you need to cross before 6pm. For the Kutta-Hunsur route (Route A), the checkpost is at the entry point of Nagarhole National Park, just outside the Kutta town. You'll take about an hour to reach Kutta from Mananthavady town (33 km). Note this is a winding route is through forest on the Kerala side between Kattikulam and Kutta.
The Bavali checkpost is the entry point from Kerala side for returning via HD Kote (Route B) from Wayanad to Bangalore. From Mananthavady town you can hit the Bavali entry point in about 30 minutes (17km).
On the NH212 , the entry check post is located at the state border, about 20km (30 minutes) from Sulthan Bathery town
For those looking for the best route to Wayanad of these, Route C & Route B are the most popular and practical routes to drive. If you do not have very specific reason (say, traveling via Coorg), skip the Kutta route (Route A). It's a bit circuitous and the road is not so great at some stretches between Hunsur and Kerala border.
Another reason you can opt for the Route A (with some diversions), is in case to drive during the night to/from Wayanad, when all the three routes and blocked for night traffic. While returning from Wayanad, at Kutta town, take the diversion towards Gonikoppal and then to Hunsur. Now you're on the main highway. It's a 30km+ roudabout around the Nanarhole NP, but the only option to reach Hunsur in the night from Wayanad.
